Armed Robbers Snatch 2.5 Million Taka from Woman in Raozan

Six armed assailants intercepted a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in broad daylight on Tuesday to rob a woman of 2.5 million BDT in Chittagong’s Raozan Upazila. The incident took place around 12:00 pm along the District Council (DC) Road in the Uttar Gujra Raj Chandra Para area under East Gujra Union.
The victim, 50-year-old Samshun Nahar, a resident of Ismail Sawdagar Bari in Ward 8 of East Gujra Union, was travelling to the Raozan Sadar Sub-Registry Office to finalize a land purchase when the robbery occurred.
Nahar explained that her family had agreed to purchase four ganda of land in the Charabottal area of Raozan Pourashava for a total price of 3.2 million BDT. Having already paid an advance of 500,000 BDT, she was carrying the remaining 2.7 million BDT in cash alongside a deed writer to complete the land registration.
While en route, six men riding two motorcycles blocked the auto-rickshaw’s path. Brandishing three firearms, the robbers held the occupants at gunpoint and snatched a bag containing 2.5 million BDT. They also stole Nahar’s mobile phone, the driver’s phone, and the vehicle’s ignition key before fleeing the scene. A second bag containing 200,000 BDT and the land documentation remained unnoticed by the attackers.
Nahar’s son, expatriate worker Md Arif, had driven ahead on a motorcycle to wait at the sub-registry office. Upon hearing of the robbery, he rushed to the scene and appealed to law enforcement authorities to recover the stolen funds and apprehend the culprits swiftly.
The brazen midday attack has sparked alarm among local residents over deteriorating security along public roads. Md Jasim Uddin, a local resident who arrived at the scene shortly after the robbery, questioned the safety of ordinary citizens when violent crimes occur so openly. He urged administration officials and local community leaders to assist the victimised family.
Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station, confirmed that a written complaint has been lodged regarding the robbery. Police have launched an investigation to identify the armed gang, track down the suspects, and recover the stolen cash, with formal court proceedings currently underway.
