Recently, arson and sabotage have increased across various parts of the country. On social media, multiple IDs and pages are sharing addresses of Grameen Bank branches and sub-branches, inciting attacks and vandalism. Several bank establishments have already faced attacks, petrol bombings, and fires. In addition, some July memorials have been set ablaze. Police say hired youths and teenagers are being used for these arson attacks. Law enforcement agencies have intensified special operations to control the situation.
From 10 to 13 November, following the political activities banned by the Awami League’s ‘Dhaka Lockdown’ program and ahead of Sheikh Hasina’s case verdict on 17 November, fires, explosions, and sabotage incidents have occurred. Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor, said the law enforcement agencies are fully prepared, and no disorder is expected after the verdict.
Social media posts continue to incite attacks and arson by sharing Grameen Bank addresses. Incidents of petrol bombing and fire attacks have been reported at bank branches in Faridpur, Brahmanbaria, Gopalganj, Manikganj, and various areas of Dhaka. July memorials across different districts have also been targeted.
Law enforcement reports that hired youths and teenagers are being used in these arson activities. Recently, one teenager died in Mirpur, and another was arrested. Police stated that these youths have no political affiliation and are involved only due to monetary incentives.
Police remain vigilant against sabotage and arson, conducting special operations across districts. Thousands of identified offenders are being arrested daily to maintain law and order.
