BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that while people in the country are religious, they do not believe in dividing the state through religion. He alleged that a certain group is attempting to create divisions in the country in the name of religion.
He made the remarks on Sunday (7 December) while inaugurating the party’s programme titled “Plan for Building the Nation” at the Krishibid Institution auditorium.
Mirza Fakhrul said that after 15 years, an opportunity has emerged for democracy to return to the country, but many obstacles remain on that path. He claimed that propaganda is being spread against the BNP and said party members must remain alert against cyber warfare. He also said that only the BNP can move the country forward.
He further stated that institutions destroyed during the rule of the Awami League must be rebuilt anew.
The BNP leader said significant changes have taken place in the mindset of the younger generation and that people want change in all spheres. He noted that the idea of a new Bangladesh has taken hold among the population and that the old-style state structure is no longer suitable. He added that he wants to shape the BNP in line with new thinking.
Referring to Khaleda Zia’s illness, Mirza Fakhrul said that all necessary arrangements are being taken for her treatment. He said Tarique Rahman himself is overseeing the entire treatment process and that specialist doctors at both national and international levels are providing care. He added that with so many people praying for her, the Almighty will surely respond.
