Bangladesh Australia Cricket Series Scheduled For Daylight Hours

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially confirmed that the upcoming bilateral cricket series between the Bangladesh national cricket team and the touring Australia national cricket team will be conducted entirely during daylight hours. This specific scheduling strategy reflects a recurring operational framework designed primarily by the governing body to conserve electricity across the host venues. This environmental and logistical approach was recently utilised during the bilateral home series between Bangladesh and New Zealand, which took place from 17 April to 2 May. During that previous series, three One Day International (ODI) matches and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches were split between Dhaka and Chattogram, and all fixtures were successfully held under natural light.

The forthcoming international cricket series against Australia will strictly replicate this daylight-only pattern. According to the newly released itinerary, the three-match ODI series will be staged exclusively at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Each of these 50-over fixtures is scheduled to commence at 11:00 am local time. Following the conclusion of the ODI segment, the teams will transition to the shorter format of the game, with the three-match T20I series slated to take place at the Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram. The three T20I fixtures are scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm local time.

Detailed Series Schedule and Venue Allocation

The formal schedule released by the cricket authorities provides a precise breakdown of dates, venues, and start times for both the 50-over and 20-over formats.

One Day International (ODI) Fixtures:

  • First ODI: Tuesday, 9 June – Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur (Starts at 11:00 am)

  • Second ODI: Thursday, 11 June – Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur (Starts at 11:00 am)

  • Third ODI: Sunday, 14 June – Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur (Starts at 11:00 am)

Twenty20 International (T20I) Fixtures:

  • First T20I: Wednesday, 17 June – Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, Chattogram (Starts at 2:00 pm)

  • Second T20I: Friday, 19 June – Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, Chattogram (Starts at 2:00 pm)

  • Third T20I: Sunday, 21 June – Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, Chattogram (Starts at 2:00 pm)

Concurrency with the 2026 FIFA World Cup

This international cricket series will overlap directly with the global excitement surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to commence in less than a month. The prestigious football tournament is set to begin on 11 June at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, featuring an opening match between the host nation, Mexico, and South Africa. Whilst sports enthusiasts worldwide are engaged with the football tournament, the Australian cricket team will be active on Bangladeshi soil.

The bilateral cricket series will conclude within the month of June, but the FIFA World Cup—co-hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico—will extend for nearly another month. The global football tournament will culminate with the final match on 19 July at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Current ICC ODI Rankings and Qualification Implications

The upcoming fixtures carry considerable weight for the host nation regarding international standing and direct qualification prospects. In their preceding bilateral series, Bangladesh registered a 2-1 victory over New Zealand after overcoming an initial deficit. This performance secured Bangladesh’s position at number nine in the official International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings with an accumulation of 84 rating points.

Currently, India maintains the premier spot in the global ODI rankings, leading the table with 118 rating points. New Zealand holds the second position with 113 rating points, closely followed by Australia in third place with 109 rating points.

These rankings are highly significant due to the established qualification criteria for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. According to the current regulations of the International Cricket Council, the top nine teams on the official ranking table by the designated cut-off date of 31 March next year will secure direct qualification for the 2027 edition of the tournament. Consequently, the results of the three-match ODI series against Australia will be crucial for Bangladesh as they seek to fortify their position within the top nine to bypass the qualification tournament.
