Bangladesh Reports Three Dengue Deaths And 544 New Cases

Bangladesh has recorded three further deaths from dengue fever over the past 24 hours, while 544 new patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country with the mosquito-borne virus.

The latest figures were released on Monday, 3 August, in a daily dengue bulletin issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A substantial portion of the newly hospitalised patients was admitted to medical facilities across the capital, Dhaka, where healthcare centres face mounting pressure from seasonal admissions. Outlying districts in divisions such as Chattogram, Barishal, and Khulna have also reported steady increases in hospitalisations, reflecting the wider geographic spread of the virus during the ongoing monsoon season.

The surge in infections coincides with heavy rainfall, which creates ideal breeding conditions for Aedes mosquitoes—the primary vector for dengue transmission. Public health officials and medical professionals note that many patients delay seeking diagnosis, mistaking early symptoms for routine seasonal fever. Delayed medical intervention often leads to severe complications, including sudden drops in blood platelet counts and dengue shock syndrome.

In response to the rising case count, health authorities continue to urge the public to maintain strict preventive measures around homes and workplaces. Experts emphasize the necessity of clearing stagnant water from containers, flowerpots, and discarded items where mosquito larvae thrive. Citizens are also advised to use bed nets day and night and to consult healthcare providers promptly upon developing high fever or associated symptoms.

Public health specialists warn that if admission rates continue to climb through August, regional healthcare systems will face significant strain in managing inpatient volume and resources.
