Blaze at Gazipur Jute Warehouse Brought Under Control After Hours

A massive fire that erupted at a jute warehouse complex in the Deuliabari area of Konabari, Gazipur, has finally been brought under control following a grueling operation lasting more than four hours.

The incident began in the early hours of Thursday morning at approximately 5:30 am. Flames initially sparked inside a storage facility owned by a local resident named Bachchu Miah, before aggressively leaping across narrow gaps to engulf several adjacent jute and synthetic scrap warehouses in the densely packed industrial hub.

Local business owners and residents spotted the thick plumes of smoke and immediately alerted emergency services. Responding swiftly to the distress calls, the Fire Service and Civil Defence deployed five firefighting units to the scene. Three units from the Konabari station and two units from the Sarabo station worked in tandem to tackle the ferocious blaze, which was fuelled heavily by the flammable nature of the stored textile waste.

Firefighters faced immense challenges due to the heavy accumulation of material, but persistent efforts eventually paid off. The inferno was successfully brought under control at around 9:45 am.

Authorities have confirmed that while no immediate casualties have been reported, the exact cause of the fire and the total financial value of the damaged goods remain unknown. Since Thursday morning, fire personnel have been meticulously carrying out damping-down operations—clearing away charred debris and dousing hidden embers to prevent any potential reignition in the smouldering piles.

Industrial accidents involving textile scrap and waste storage facilities remain a recurring concern in suburban manufacturing zones like Gazipur, prompting renewed scrutiny over safety protocols and fire compliance measures in local warehouses.
