Bodies of Three Bangladeshis Murdered in Italy Returned Home

The remains of three family members tragically murdered in Rome have been repatriated to Bangladesh. A flight carrying the bodies of the victims landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday morning, concluding a painful waiting period for the grieving relatives. Following the completion of mandatory airport procedures, customs clearances, and official handovers, the bodies were transported directly to their ancestral home in Ward 5 of Charkakara Union, situated within the Companiganj upazila of Noakhali district.

The deceased have been identified as Kamal Uddin Babul, aged 39, his 38-year-old wife, and their five-year-old daughter, Arowa Islam Arisha. In a fortunate turn of events amidst the tragedy, the couple’s sole surviving child, their young son Ayan, survived the brutal assault despite suffering severe injuries. After receiving emergency medical treatment in a local Italian hospital, the recovering boy accompanied his extended family on the flight back home.

Relatives confirmed that the initial funeral prayers, or Janazah, took place in Italy on Thursday. Members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community gathered alongside colleagues to pay their final respects before the bodies were prepared for international transport.

Upon arriving at the village on Friday afternoon in specialized freezer vans, an overwhelming atmosphere of grief swept through the local community. Hundreds of villagers, neighbors, and relatives gathered at the family residence to offer condolences. Later that evening, a second funeral prayer was conducted at the nearby Shishu Niketan High School grounds. Following the prayers, the three victims were laid to rest side by side in their family graveyard.

The horrific incident unfolded on the night of 26 June inside an apartment located in the Casalotti neighborhood of Rome. Italian law enforcement officers arrived at the scene after being alerted by neighbors, discovering the bodies of the three victims alongside the critically injured boy.

Investigators and family members pointed toward pre-existing disputes as potential motives. Relatives revealed that in July 2025, while staying at his village home in Noakhali, Babul received a written threat from an alleged criminal gang operating under the name ‘Lal Bahini’. The family had lodged a formal written complaint with the Companiganj police station at the time. Relatives and local leaders have now urged both Italian law enforcement agencies and the Bangladeshi government to coordinate diplomatic efforts to ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
