Bride-to-Be’s Murder Leaves Fiancé Grieving Days Before Wedding

‘Don’t worry, Agami. I was with you, I am with you, and I always will be.’

Those were the poignant words posted by Adit Kar after his fiancée, Agami Chakraborty, was killed just days before their planned wedding in Rangpur. Agami, a student of Carmichael College, was among four members of the same family who were allegedly murdered at their home in the city’s Machuapara area.

Adit’s emotional message, shared on social media after Agami’s death, has deeply affected relatives, friends and acquaintances. The post captured the devastating contrast between the couple’s preparations for a new life together and the sudden loss that brought those plans to an abrupt end.

On Sunday night, a Facebook page named ‘Carmichael College Crush and Confessions’ published a photograph of Agami and Adit alongside his message. In the post, Adit wrote, ‘The last remaining support of my life has also come to an end.’

Recalling a moment from only days earlier, he wrote that the photograph had been taken on Wednesday. Agami had reportedly suggested that they take a picture together because, as a couple, they had never taken one before.

‘Don’t worry, Agami. I was with you, I am with you, and I will remain with you,’ Adit wrote.

The couple’s wedding date had already been fixed, and preparations were reportedly under way in both families. What should have been a period of anticipation and celebration instead turned into mourning after Agami was killed along with her parents and brother.

Police recovered the bodies of four members of the Chakraborty family from a locked house in Machuapara, Rangpur city, on Saturday night. The victims were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty, a former teacher of Rangpur Zilla School, his wife, their son and their daughter Agami Chakraborty.

According to police, all four victims had been strangled.

The family had reportedly lost contact with relatives after midnight on Thursday. Concern grew when repeated attempts to reach them failed. After receiving information from relatives, police went to the house on Saturday night and recovered the four bodies.

The incident has caused widespread shock in the area, particularly because four members of the same family were found dead inside their home. Investigators are now seeking to establish exactly how the killings took place and what led to the deaths.

At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud said two people had been detained in connection with the killings. They were identified as 23-year-old Mugdha Das and 19-year-old Siddhartha Das. Police detained the two early on Sunday.

According to the police commissioner, Mugdha and Siddhartha allegedly entered Ganapati Chakraborty’s house by crossing over the roof of an adjacent building. Police believe the incident began after Ganapati Chakraborty objected to their alleged use of yaba. He was allegedly killed first, followed by his wife, daughter and son.

The two detainees are being questioned as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police are also working to determine whether anyone else was involved.

For Agami’s fiancé, however, the tragedy has a deeply personal dimension. A wedding that had already been arranged was only days away, and the couple had recently taken what would become their final photograph together.

That ordinary moment, captured on a mobile phone on a Wednesday, has now become a painful reminder of what was lost. Adit’s message reflects the shock of losing the person with whom he had expected to begin a new chapter of his life.

The investigation into the four deaths remains under way.
