A passenger bus lost control and overturned on the slope of the Padma Bridge in Munshiganj’s Louhajang upazila on Monday afternoon, leaving eight people seriously injured and briefly disrupting traffic on the vital transit corridor.

The accident occurred at approximately 13:37 in the Mawa area. According to local emergency reports, the Dhaka-bound vehicle had originated from Magura and was carrying passengers toward the capital when the driver seemingly lost control of the steering mechanism. The speeding coach veered off course, crashed heavily against the roadside safety barrier, and tipped onto its side.

Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Muhammad Shafikul Islam stated that the Srishnagar Fire Station received an urgent distress call shortly after the crash occurred. Two dedicated rescue units were immediately dispatched from the station to the site. Firefighters swiftly secured the area, extracted trapped passengers from the mangled vehicle, and loaded the injured into service ambulances for urgent medical evaluation.

The casualties were rushed to the Srishnagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Authorities identified the injured individuals as Saifullah, 80, and Lutfor, 63, both from Magura Sadar; Rebeka Khatun, 40, from Alamdanga in Chuadanga; Noor Islam, 46, and Rashida, 40, both from Damurhuda; Fatema, 7, from Mohammadpur in Magura; Saif, 23, from Sreepur; and Arafat, 13, from Madhukhali in Faridpur.

Preliminary assessments by rescue officials indicate that excessive speed played a primary role in the collision, causing the heavy vehicle to shatter against the bridge approach railing. The overturned coach partially blocked the thoroughfare, triggering a temporary slowdown in vehicular movement as emergency crews cleared debris and towed the wreckage away. Transport authorities are continuing to examine the exact mechanical condition of the bus and investigate the precise factors leading up to the crash.
