Chinese National and Local Woman Arrested Over Illegal Savar Distillery

Police in Savar have uncovered an illegal alcohol manufacturing facility operating inside a residential apartment, arresting a 54-year-old Chinese national and a local woman. Officers seized 13 buckets of home-brewed liquor alongside specialised production equipment during the raid on Tuesday afternoon at the Meen Tower complex in the Purbahati area of Hemayetpur.
The suspects have been identified as Chinese national Phili Lihan and local resident Champa Das. According to police reports, the duo had been secretly running the illicit distillery inside the residential complex for an extended period, evading detection by local authorities while producing and distributing bootleg alcohol.
The operation unfolded unexpectedly when a team from Savar Model Police Station visited Meen Tower to investigate an unrelated complaint. While conducting inquiries on the premises, officers noticed suspicious odours and activities emanating from one of the residential flats. Acting on suspicion, police carried out an immediate search of the property, discovering an operational illicit distillery inside.
During the search, officers caught both suspects red-handed while actively engaged in brewing alcohol. Police confiscated 13 large plastic buckets filled with processed local liquor, as well as various distilling tools, chemical mixing containers, piping, and filtering devices used in the production process.
Officer-in-Charge of Savar Model Police Station, Saiful Alam, confirmed the arrests and stated that Champa Das had been residing in the rented apartment for two and a half years, using the space as a primary base for brewing operations. In collaboration with Phili Lihan, she produced locally distilled alcohol for commercial distribution across surrounding areas.
A formal case has been registered against both individuals at Savar Model Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act. Following the completion of preliminary interrogation and seizure documentation, the suspects were transferred into judicial custody to face court proceedings, while law enforcement officials continue investigating potential distribution networks linked to the operation.
