As part of its ongoing strategy to deepen financial inclusion and extend formal banking services to semi-urban and rural communities, Citizens Bank PLC has inaugurated a new branch in Lohagara, Chattogram. The opening marks another step in the bank’s nationwide expansion programme, aimed at integrating local economic activity into a structured and regulated financial system.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials of the bank, local administration, and representatives of the business community. The Managing Director, Alamgir Hossain, was present as chief guest, while the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Lohagara, Md Saiful Islam, attended as special guest. Deputy Managing Directors Md Mostafizur Rahman and Md Abdul Latif, along with other senior executives, local business leaders, and professionals from various sectors, also participated in the event.

In his address, the Managing Director described the Lohagara branch as a strategic addition to the bank’s distribution network. He emphasised that the branch would offer comprehensive banking solutions for individual customers, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), traders, and corporate clients. Core services will include deposit accounts, consumer finance, SME lending, trade finance, remittance facilities, and advisory support tailored to local business needs.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the SME sector, widely recognised as a key driver of Bangladesh’s economic growth. Through the new branch, entrepreneurs will gain access to customised credit products, working capital support, letters of credit, and import–export related trade finance. Bank officials expressed confidence that such targeted financing would strengthen local industries and commerce, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to job creation across the greater Chattogram region.

Aligned with the bank’s digital transformation agenda, customers of the Lohagara branch will also benefit from modern mobile and internet banking platforms. These services are designed to ensure secure online transactions, real-time account monitoring, and enhanced cyber-security standards, enabling customers to manage their finances efficiently and with confidence.

Speaking at the event, the UNO highlighted the importance of good governance in credit disbursement, prudent risk management, and prioritising productive sectors of the economy. He noted that responsible banking practices are essential for maintaining long-term financial stability and supporting sustainable local development.

The establishment of the Lohagara branch not only broadens Citizens Bank’s geographical footprint but also reinforces its commitment to inclusive, development-oriented banking. Local entrepreneurs and retail customers are expected to benefit from improved access to finance, advisory services, and digital tools, opening new avenues for economic opportunity in the area.
