Mohibul and Dastagir Elected to UGC Association

Dr Md Mohibul Ahsan and Md Golam Dastagir have been elected as the President and General Secretary, respectively, of the Executive Committee of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Officers’ Association. The election, which marked the 11th general polls of the organisation, took place on Thursday, 18 June 2026. Voting was conducted in a continuous session from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at the UGC Auditorium, with official results announced shortly thereafter by the election commission.

Election Administration and Official Appointments

The balloting and subsequent counting processes were overseen by a three-member election commission. Mst Jasmin Parvin, the Director of the International Cooperation Division at the UGC, served as the Chief Election Commissioner to declare the final tallies. She was assisted by two newly appointed Election Commissioners: Shibananda Sheel, the Additional Director of the General Services and Engineering Division, and Mohammad Abdul Mannan, the Deputy Director of the Public Relations and Publications Division.

The newly elected President, Dr Md Mohibul Ahsan, currently serves as the Additional Director of the Public University Management Division within the UGC structure. The newly elected General Secretary, Md Golam Dastagir, holds the position of Deputy Director of the Public Relations and Publications Division. The newly constituted 11-member Executive Committee will manage the administrative operations of the association for a tenure of two years.

Declarations and Policy Commitments

Following the tabulation of results, Chief Election Commissioner Mst Jasmin Parvin confirmed that the election was conducted in a festive, peaceful, and harmonious manner. She urged all officers within the commission to further strengthen their mutual cooperation and professional relationships to enhance institutional efficiency.

In his inaugural address to the assembly, the newly elected President, Dr Mohibul Ahsan, pledged to act as a unified representative for all UGC officers without distinction. He stated that the leadership would prioritise the systematic implementation of the commitments outlined in their election manifesto. Furthermore, Dr Ahsan expressed a firm resolve to establish an equitable, non-discriminatory, and collaborative working environment while ensuring that professional competence and merit remain the primary criteria for evaluation within the commission.
