Coast Guard Seize 10,000 Yaba Pills in Teknaf Raid

Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel have seized a consignment of 10,000 Yaba tablets during a targeted early-morning operation in Teknaf upazila under Cox’s Bazar district. The raid was conducted in the Keruntoli Canal area adjacent to the Naf River at dawn on Sunday, 8 November. However, no suspects could be apprehended at the scene as the drug traffickers managed to escape into nearby residential localities upon detecting the approaching law enforcement officers.

Official details of the anti-narcotics drive were confirmed by Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. He stated that a special operational team from the Coast Guard launched the raid following tip-offs from confidential sources regarding an incoming illegal narcotics shipment along the border waterways. Upon reaching the Keruntoli Canal area, officers initiated a meticulous search of the surrounding terrain and riverbanks.

During the search operation, Coast Guard members spotted a group of individuals acting suspiciously in the secluded canal zone. As the patrol team closed in to challenge them, the suspects abandoned their cargo under cover of darkness and fled swiftly into nearby inhabited areas. A subsequent search of the site led to the discovery of a discarded package containing 10,000 contraband Yaba pills.

The Naf River border route between Bangladesh and Myanmar remains a sensitive corridor frequently targeted by transnational drug trafficking syndicates attempting to smuggle synthetic stimulants into the country. Coastal patrol units continue to maintain heightened vigilance along maritime and riverine routes to curb the inflow of illegal drugs.

Lieutenant Commander Sujon added that formal legal procedures regarding the seized Yaba tablets are currently under way. The recovered narcotics will be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station to initiate official legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act, while intelligence drives remain active to identify and track down the absconding smugglers.
