Construction Worker Charged with Attempted Rape of Neighbour in Bogra

A construction worker in Bogra’s Dhunat upazila has been charged with the attempted rape of a 29-year-old mother of two, following a late-night home intrusion. The victim lodged a formal complaint against the accused at Dhunat Police Station on Tuesday night, prompting law enforcement to launch a manhunt for the suspect.

The incident was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhunat Police Station, Atiqul Islam.

According to police sources and case documents, the accused has been identified as 30-year-old Minister, son of Mokhlesar Rahman, residing in Bara Chapra village within Dhunat upazila. Local reports indicate that Minister, a construction worker by profession, had been subjecting his neighbour’s wife to persistent harassment over a prolonged period.

The situation culminated in violence on the night of 19 July. The victim’s husband, a local farmer, secured the outer door latch from the outside before leaving their residence to watch a World Cup football match at a nearby house, leaving his wife alone indoors. Exploiting the husband’s absence, Minister allegedly unlatched the front door, intruded into the house, and attempted to assault the woman sexually.

The victim resisted and raised an immediate alarm, screaming for help. Hearing her cries, nearby family members and neighbours rushed to the scene. Realising he was about to be caught, the suspect managed to slip away into the dark before local residents could apprehend him.

Following the incident, the victim approached law enforcement authorities to seek justice, culminating in the formal registration of the case on Tuesday night. Dhunat Police Station OC Atiqul Islam assured the public that officers are actively investigating the matter. He stated that targeted police raids are currently underway across multiple locations to arrest the absconding suspect and bring him to justice under relevant statutory provisions.
