A tragic road accident in Nalchity upazila of Jhalokathi district claimed the life of a municipal councillor and left a foreign businessman critically injured on Sunday afternoon, triggering widespread grief across the locality.
The deceased has been identified as Humayun Kabir Sagor, 37, a councillor of Ward No. 9 of the Nalchity municipality. He was travelling with Thai businessman Md. Sohel, who sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal. Medical officials have described his condition as critical.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred around midday on the Barishal–Khulna regional highway in the Rayapur area of Nalchity upazila. The two men were returning from Barishal towards Jhalokathi on a motorcycle when the vehicle reportedly lost control. In a sudden and violent impact, the motorcycle collided with a roadside tree, throwing both riders onto the road and leaving them seriously injured.
Local residents quickly rushed to the scene after the crash. They rescued the injured men and transported them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital without delay. Police officials confirmed that they reached the accident site shortly after being informed. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash.
