Quinton de Kock has reached another significant milestone in Twenty20 cricket, joining an elite group of batters that includes Virat Kohli and David Warner after striking his 10th century in the format.
The South African wicketkeeper-batter achieved the landmark while representing Barbados Tridents against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League. De Kock produced an explosive innings of 106 from 57 deliveries, setting the tempo with an aggressive approach throughout his stay at the crease.
His century was built around clean and powerful strokeplay. He struck 11 fours and six sixes, finishing with a remarkable strike rate of 185.96. The innings not only helped underline his value as a top-order batter in franchise cricket but also took his tally of T20 centuries to double figures.
De Kock is now the fifth batter to score 10 centuries in recognised Twenty20 cricket. He has moved level with Kohli and Warner, both of whom also have 10 T20 centuries to their names.
Only two players stand above the trio on the list. West Indies great Chris Gayle leads the way with 22 centuries from 463 T20 matches, while Pakistan batter Babar Azam is second with 13 centuries in 359 matches.
The achievement adds another chapter to De Kock’s substantial T20 career. Unlike the shorter international calendar available to many players, the T20 format has provided him with opportunities across a wide range of franchise competitions, allowing him to build an extensive record over several seasons.
His latest century also brings him within touching distance of another major landmark: 13,000 T20 runs.
De Kock has so far accumulated 12,867 runs in 457 matches, having batted in 433 innings. He averages 31.30 and has maintained a strike rate of 139.78. His record includes 10 centuries and 84 half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 140.
He currently sits ninth among the leading run-scorers in T20 cricket history. At the top of that list is another West Indies legend, Kieron Pollard, who has amassed 14,933 runs in 751 matches at a strike rate of 151.17.
With 12,867 runs already to his name, De Kock needs only 133 more to reach the 13,000-run mark. If he achieves it, he will become the ninth batter in T20 history to reach that figure.
The latest performance therefore carries significance beyond the century itself. De Kock has strengthened his position among the format’s most prolific run-scorers while also adding his name alongside some of the biggest figures in modern T20 batting. His ability to combine experience with an attacking style remains a defining feature of his game, as demonstrated by the 106-run assault that took him to his 10th century.
