In Islam, Friday is extremely important. The Holy Quran instructs believers to hasten to the mosque on this day. The Hadith also describes significant deeds for Friday. Allah says, “O believers! When the call to prayer on Friday is made, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and cease trade; this is better for you if you only knew. Then, when the prayer is concluded, disperse on earth and seek the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah much that you may succeed.” (Surah Al-Jumu’ah, Ayat 9-10)
Key deeds on Friday include:
Significance of Friday: Abu Lubaba bin Abdul Munzir (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) mentioned five unique aspects of Friday: the creation of Adam (AS), his descent to earth, his death, a special time for accepted prayers, and the commencement of Qiyamah. (Ibn Majah, Hadith: 895)
Performing Friday Prayer: Salman Farsi narrated that whoever performs ghusl, uses oil, applies perfume, attends the mosque, sits in place without pushing forward, performs the prayer, and listens attentively to the Khutbah, Allah will forgive his sins between the two Fridays. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 883)
Ghusl and Early Arrival: Aus bin Aus Sakaafi (RA) narrated that those who perform ghusl on Friday, arrive early at the mosque, and listen attentively to the Khutbah, earn the reward equivalent to one year of fasting and prayers for every step they take. (Abu Dawud, Hadith: 345)
Reward for Entering Mosque Early: Entering the mosque first after ghusl is equivalent to sacrificing a camel; subsequent entrants earn the reward of a cow, goat, chicken, and an egg respectively. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 841)
Special Time for Dua: There is a special moment on Friday when a Muslim’s supplication is accepted, particularly at the end of Asr. (Abu Dawud, Hadith: 1048)
Reciting Surah Kahf: Reciting Surah Kahf on Friday illuminates the time between two Fridays. Reciting the last 10 verses protects one from the Dajjal. (Sahih Targheeb, Hadith: 1473, Al-Mustadrak: 2/399)
Forgiveness of Sins: Performing ghusl, using perfume, attending the mosque, praying, and listening attentively to the Khutbah leads to forgiveness of sins between two Fridays. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 883)
Sending Salawat: Reciting Salawat on the Prophet (SAW) abundantly on Friday is highly meritorious, as it is presented to the Prophet (SAW). (Abu Dawud, Hadith: 1047)
