Dhaka Returns to Normalcy After Eid Holidays

Following the extended Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, the capital city of Dhaka has gradually returned to its familiar bustling rhythm. After a week of unusually quiet streets and reduced commercial activity, today witnessed a significant increase in both pedestrian and vehicular movement across the city. The reopening of educational institutions, offices, and courts has largely restored Dhaka’s characteristic urban energy.

From early Sunday morning (29 March), major areas of the city, including Mohakhali, Gulshan, Agargaon, Kallyanpur, and North Badda, have experienced noticeable traffic congestion. Shops and markets, which had remained largely dormant during the holiday week, are now resuming their regular operations.

Eid Holidays and City Dynamics

The government declared a seven-day holiday starting Tuesday prior to Eid, resulting in near-empty roads and a serene cityscape. During this period, Dhaka appeared markedly different from its usual frenetic pace. With the holiday period ending and offices reopening, the city is witnessing the expected resurgence of daily activities.

Public Experiences

Monsur Ali, a ride-sharing driver operating in Mohakhali, shared his observations:
“I resumed ride-sharing on the second day of Eid, but passenger numbers were low. This morning, however, the streets are crowded, and traffic congestion has returned. After a week of lull, the city is back to its usual pace.”

Habibur Mia, a bus driver from Savar operating the Baishakhi route, noted:
“From this morning, we have passengers at every stop. The reopening of offices and courts has increased both vehicles and people on the streets. Traffic signals and jams are as familiar as ever.”

Office worker Sujan Ahmed remarked:
“Commuting was much easier during the holiday as the city was almost empty. Today, with more people and vehicles, Dhaka has returned to its typical busy state.”
