Authorities in Mymensingh have uncovered major irregularities in fuel records at a filling station owned by Azizul Haque, the member secretary of the Gauripur Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Over a six-day period, nearly 50,000 litres of fuel were reportedly misreported, prompting the arrest of the station’s manager.
Messrs Swad Filling Station, located in the Dhoukhala Koltapara market area of Gauripur, came under scrutiny during a mobile court inspection led by Executive Magistrate Nurul Huda on Tuesday afternoon. The station manager, Jalil Hossain, 30, son of Usman Ghani of Himmatnagar village, was detained for his alleged involvement in record falsification.
Following the raid, Assistant Certification Officer Afsarul Islam filed a formal complaint with the police, which subsequently registered a case under the Special Powers Act.
Investigations revealed that the station’s fuel records were inconsistent with depot allocations. Data obtained from Bhairab Bazar depot in Kishoreganj indicated that the station should have received a total of 58,500 litres of petrol between 1 and 7 April. The manager, however, acknowledged receipt of only 9,000 litres on 3 April, denying any other deliveries. This discrepancy raises concerns of potential illegal stockpiling or mismanagement.

Eyewitness accounts from local shopkeepers and motorcyclists indicated that fuel sales were conducted on only a single day during the month. According to Abdullah Al Mamun, an officer overseeing fuel distribution from the Upazila Livestock Office, 3 April was the only day petrol was supplied and distributed the next day.
Addressing the issue, Azizul Haque stated, “The station manager could not present accurate information to the mobile court. We will clarify all matters through proper legal procedures.”
Kamrul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Gauripur Police Station, confirmed that the case was registered under the Special Powers Act due to the fuel discrepancies. The manager is expected to be produced in court and remanded in custody on Wednesday.
