Foreign exchange rates remain an important reference for Bangladeshis involved in overseas employment, remittance transfers, international trade, travel and education. With more than 10 million Bangladeshis living abroad, changes in the value of foreign currencies against the taka can have a direct bearing on the amount received by families from overseas earnings and on the cost of international transactions.
On Sunday, 9 August 2026, the US dollar was valued at Tk 123.34 against the Bangladeshi taka. The British pound stood at Tk 167.03, while the euro was quoted at Tk 145.23.
Among the major Middle Eastern currencies, one Saudi riyal was valued at Tk 33, while the UAE dirham stood at Tk 33.69. Qatar’s riyal was quoted at Tk 33.99. The exchange rates are particularly relevant to remittance recipients, importers, exporters and people preparing for overseas travel. A stronger foreign currency against the taka can increase the taka value of money sent home by expatriate workers, while it can also raise the local cost of imported goods and services when payments are made in foreign currency.
The figures can also serve as a broad reference for individuals planning international payments. However, actual transaction rates may differ depending on the bank or authorised money exchange service, as institutions can apply separate buying and selling rates and other applicable charges.
Foreign exchange rates are not fixed permanently. They can change at any time in response to market conditions, currency demand and supply, international economic developments and other factors. Anyone planning a foreign currency transaction should therefore confirm the latest applicable rate with the relevant authorised institution before completing the transaction.
