A wave of fear and anxiety has gripped residents in the Batiaghata and Labanchara areas of Khulna following two brutal murders executed within just four hours. Unknown assailants shot and stabbed two young men in separate incidents on Wednesday evening and night, highlighting a brazen display of violence that has left the local community severely shaken.
The first attack occurred around 5:45 PM in the Harintana area under the Labanchara Police Station. Assailants ambushed twenty-two-year-old Md. Monjurul Islam near the Ashi Bigha culvert, stabbing him in the abdomen before shooting him in the left leg. Local residents rushed to the scene immediately after the attack and transported the critically injured youth to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Medical officers at the facility pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Chaos escalated further as news broke of a second fatal attack later that night. Around 9:45 PM, nineteen-year-old Najmul was targeted in the Shishu Bagan Ashi Bigha area. Attackers hacked and shot him before abandoning his body at the scene and fleeing. The rapid sequence and similar nature of the killings have led locals to suspect coordinated foul play or underlying rivalries.
Officers from the Labanchara Police Station retrieved both bodies from the respective crime scenes. Syed Mosharraf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Labanchara Police Station, confirmed that legal steps are underway. Monjurul’s body was sent directly to Khulna Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, specialists from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived at the second location to prepare an inquest report for Najmul before his body was also transferred for an autopsy.
