Electrical Engineer Killed in Tongi Bus Collision, Another Injured

A fatal road accident on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway claimed the life of a 34-year-old electrical engineer on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Tuhin Islam, died after a passenger bus struck the motorcycle he was riding in the Munnu Gate area of Tongi, Gazipur. Another rider, Ahidul Islam, sustained injuries during the collision.

Tuhin Islam was the son of Nur Islam from Andalbari village in Daulatpur upazila, Kushtia. He resided in the Dhaka Uddan area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, where he worked as an electrical engineer.

According to eye-witness reports cited by the police, Tuhin and his companion were travelling on a motorcycle from Gazipur towards Dhaka. As they navigated the busy Munnu Gate stretch in Tongi around midday, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus operated by ‘Anabil Paribahan’ struck their motorcycle from behind. The impact threw both riders onto the tarmac, inflicting critical injuries on Tuhin.

Bystanders and local residents rushed to the scene immediately following the collision to rescue the victims. They transported both injured individuals to the nearby Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi. However, the attending physician at the emergency department pronounced Tuhin dead upon arrival due to the severity of his injuries. Medical staff treated Ahidul Islam for his sustained injuries at the facility.

Following the collision, the driver and conductor of the Anabil Paribahan bus abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Officers from Tongi East Police Station responded promptly to the notification, seizing the passenger bus and taking it into police custody.

Confirming the incident, Mehedi Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Station, stated that law enforcement authorities have impounded the vehicle involved. He added that police have initiated efforts to track down the fugitive driver and conductor, with formal legal proceedings currently underway to address the fatal collision.
