Farhan Breaks Records, Eyes Babar Azam

Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan is currently in scintillating form in the Twenty20 format, dazzling fans with his attacking strokeplay. After being dismissed cheaply in his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut, Farhan returned with a vengeance in his second match, producing a match-winning century that equalled the T20 records of Virat Kohli and Rilee Rossouw, while sending a clear message to fellow Pakistani star Babar Azam. His innings was pivotal in steering Multan Sultans to a commanding victory.

In Wednesday’s PSL fixture, Hyderabad Kingsmen batted first and posted a competitive total of 225 for 5 in their 20 overs. Maz Sadakat led their innings with 62 runs off 26 balls, featuring five fours and five sixes, while Sarzil Khan contributed 51 from 26 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes.

Chasing 226, Multan Sultans reached the target comfortably with eight balls to spare and six wickets in hand. Farhan anchored the chase with an unbeaten 106 from 57 balls, hitting seven fours and eight sixes, while Steven Smith added a brisk 46 off 20 balls. Farhan’s innings marked his first PSL century and his ninth T20 hundred overall.

In Pakistan’s T20 history, only Babar Azam, with 11 centuries, is ahead of Farhan. Remarkably, Farhan has achieved nine centuries in just 166 matches, whereas Kohli and Rossouw reached the same tally in 415 and 393 games respectively.

Player T20 Centuries Matches Played Nationality Notes
Chris Gayle 22 407 West Indies “Universe Boss”, T20 record-holder
Babar Azam 11 261 Pakistan Leading Pakistani T20 centurion
David Warner 10 333 Australia Aggressive opener
Virat Kohli 9 415 India Elite T20 batsman
Rilee Rossouw 9 393 South Africa Experienced international star
Sahibzada Farhan 9 166 Pakistan Fastest to 9 T20 centuries among peers

Farhan’s current excellence echoes his T20 World Cup form, where he scored two centuries in a single tournament, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 383 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 160.25. Known for dominating high-pressure encounters, he has now translated that success into the PSL, signalling that he is among the finest T20 talents in Pakistan today.

With such explosive performances, Farhan is not only closing in on Babar Azam’s record but also establishing himself as a key figure in Pakistan’s T20 setup. If he maintains this trajectory, he could soon emerge as the country’s premier T20 centurion.
