FDH Bank Donates K150 Million to MUBAS Endowment Fund

FDH Bank plc has donated K150 million to the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) Endowment Fund to assist disadvantaged students and strengthen the university’s long-term sustainability.

Speaking at the donation ceremony in Blantyre on Tuesday, FDH Bank’s Managing Director, Noel Mkulichi, highlighted the bank’s ongoing commitment to empowering Malawi’s youth through education, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

“It is always inspiring to visit a university campus where ideas flow freely, dreams are nurtured, and future leaders are shaped,” Mkulichi stated.

He explained that the donation is part of the bank’s sustainability initiative, FDH Cares, which focuses on making long-term investments in human capital.

“We are committed to fostering growth in our communities through FDH Cares, with education as one of its core pillars. This contribution is more than just a donation—it is an investment that will continue to make a difference long after today’s ceremony,” he said.

Mkulichi also emphasised that the donation builds on the bank’s ongoing collaborations with MUBAS, including the Graduate Start-Ups Programme, which supports young entrepreneurs.

“Some people believe that banks are reluctant to give, but today we are proving that this is not just giving; it is about building, empowering, and investing in Malawi’s brightest future leaders,” he added.

He encouraged students to fully embrace the opportunities created by the Endowment Fund.

“Work hard, dream big, and step forward with confidence,” he urged.

In response, MUBAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Nancy Chitera, expressed her gratitude for the generous contribution, noting that it brings the university closer to its goal of raising K5 billion for the fund within three years.

“This donation is a significant step forward in our efforts to raise K5 billion for the Endowment Fund,” said Chitera.

She stressed that the fund reflects MUBAS’s dedication to ensuring that no student has to drop out due to financial challenges.

“Our aim is for every student to have access to accommodation, food allowances, e-resources, gadgets, and tuition support,” she explained.

Chitera also highlighted that contributions to the MUBAS Endowment Fund represent a vital investment in the future of Malawi.
