Five-Day Rain Forecast Issued Across Bangladesh

Light rain began falling in the capital Dhaka at around 11.30am on Wednesday, as the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast continued rainfall across the country for the next five days.

The five-day forecast, issued at 9am on Wednesday, suggests that unsettled weather conditions will persist across much of Bangladesh, with several regions likely to experience light to moderately heavy rain. Some areas, particularly in the southern and south-eastern parts of the country, may also receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the period.

For Wednesday, most areas of the Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions are expected to experience light to moderately heavy rain. Similar conditions may affect many parts of the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions. Isolated areas of Barishal and Chattogram could see heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Daytime and night-time temperatures across the country are expected to remain largely unchanged on Wednesday, despite the widespread rain and cloud cover.

The weather is forecast to remain wet on Thursday. Most areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions, along with many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet, may receive light to moderately heavy rain. Some locations in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram could experience heavy rainfall. The daytime temperature may fall slightly across the country, while night-time temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

Rainfall is also forecast in all eight divisions on Friday. Most parts of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram, as well as many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet, may experience light to moderate rain. Some parts of the country could receive moderately heavy to heavy rainfall.

The wet conditions are expected to continue into Saturday. Many areas of Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet may receive moderate rain, while scattered areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Chattogram could also experience rainfall. Moderate to heavy rain is possible in isolated locations.

On Sunday, the fifth and final day covered by the forecast, many areas of Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet may receive light to moderate rain. Some parts of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Chattogram are also likely to experience rainfall. Isolated areas could again see moderately heavy to heavy rain.

The prolonged spell of rain may bring temporary relief from heat in some areas, but persistent rainfall can also disrupt normal daily activities, particularly in urban centres. In Dhaka, periods of heavy rain often lead to temporary waterlogging on roads and slower traffic movement. Residents in areas prone to waterlogging, as well as people travelling during periods of intense rain, may therefore need to remain cautious.

The forecast indicates that rainfall will not be confined to a particular region, with all eight divisions expected to experience rain at different times over the five-day period. The intensity, however, is likely to vary from one area to another, with the possibility of heavier downpours in parts of the southern and coastal divisions.
