Five More Children Die Amid Ongoing Measles Surge in Bangladesh

The Directorate General of Health Services has reported five more child fatalities linked to measles symptoms across Bangladesh over a recent twenty-four-hour reporting period. Public health authorities confirmed that during this same timeframe, a further 1,232 children fell ill with either confirmed measles or associated symptoms, highlighting a continuing strain on medical facilities nationwide.

While officials noted that none of the latest five deaths were definitively verified as primary measles cases, the toll underscores the persistent vulnerability of young children during this widespread outbreak. The latest figures elevate the cumulative death toll recorded since mid-March to 938 fatalities. This total comprises 839 children who exhibited measles symptoms prior to death and 99 cases where the viral infection was formally confirmed.

Medical centres across the country continue to manage high patient volumes. In the past twenty-four hours alone, 83 children were diagnosed with confirmed measles, while 1,149 others sought care for related symptoms. Hospital admissions saw 1,055 new patients admitted for specialised treatment, while 946 recovered sufficiently to receive discharge clearances.

Public health experts emphasise that timely immunisation remains the most effective defence against the spread of the virus.
