Former IGP Mamun to Testify at the International Crimes Tribunal Today

Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Inspector General of Police (IGP), who is a key state witness in the case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, is scheduled to testify today at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1).

On Tuesday, 2 September, Mamun will give his testimony via a camera trial before the three-member judicial panel led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mazumder, Chairman of ICT-1.

• The case concerns alleged genocidal acts committed during July–August, in which the tribunal’s investigation report claims Sheikh Hasina played a commanding role.
• Other accused in the case include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun himself.
• Following the prosecution’s submission, the tribunal extended the deadline for report consideration in line with Mamun’s application to testify.

Mamun’s testimony is expected to be pivotal, given his direct involvement and former position within the law enforcement hierarchy.
