Sagar Islam Seepar, the former general secretary of the Sakhipur Pourashava Chhatra League, has been arrested by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5). The 25-year-old was apprehended on Monday evening, 10 August, directly in front of the Natore Sadar Police Station in connection with an outstanding court warrant issued under a CR case.
Following the arrest, law enforcement officers conducted a routine verification of his criminal record and pending legal proceedings. The screening revealed that Seepar is a named accused in a specific case registered at Sakhipur Police Station concerning violence during the anti-discrimination student movement. The case, numbered Case 03/08/2024, was formally lodged on 8 August 2024.
Upon confirming the details, Natore Sadar Police Station alerted their counterparts in Sakhipur, Tangail. A specialized team from Sakhipur Police Station subsequently travelled to Natore, completed the necessary legal handovers, and escorted the suspect back to Tangail. Officers have confirmed that he remains in custody at Sakhipur Police Station.
According to police sources, Seepar had been evading arrest and moving between different districts following political shifts across the country. The charges against him stem from incidents surrounding the student-led protests in July and August 2024, during which various activists associated with the Bangladesh Chhatra League faced allegations of violent disruption and intimidation aimed at quelling demonstrators in the Sakhipur region.
The officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station confirmed that the suspect has been formally shown arrested in the student movement assault case. Authorities are preparing the necessary paperwork to present him before the Tangail District Court, where prosecutors are expected to seek a remand order for further questioning regarding his involvement in the unrest.
