Four Arrested Over Mohammadpur Murder Case

Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the brutal killing of Asadul, also known locally as “Longu Asadul,” who was stabbed to death in the Beribandh area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, amid what investigators suspect to be a case of long-standing personal enmity.

The arrests were made on Thursday night (16 April) from the Nawabganj area on the outskirts of the capital, following an intelligence-led operation conducted by law enforcement officers. Those detained include individuals identified as Akhtar, a former leader of the local Jubo Dal unit (Ward No. 34), along with a man named Munna. The remaining two suspects have been named as Arif and Babul.

Police confirmation and early details

The information was confirmed by Md Juel Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. However, he noted that full details of all four suspects were initially being verified at the time of briefing.

Authorities stated that further interrogation is underway to determine the precise roles of each individual in the killing, as well as to establish whether the attack was pre-planned or carried out in the heat of confrontation.

Details of the killing

According to police and local sources, the incident took place shortly after midnight at around 12:50am on Wednesday, in the Sadeq Khan Ittkhola area under Beribandh in Mohammadpur.

Victim Asadul, widely known by the nickname “Longu Asadul,” was reportedly attacked with sharp weapons during a violent confrontation believed to have stemmed from previous disputes. He sustained multiple stab wounds and died on the spot before medical assistance could be provided.

Arrest operation in Nawabganj

Law enforcement officials said the suspects were tracked following preliminary intelligence gathering after the murder. Acting on that information, police conducted a coordinated operation in the Nawabganj area late on Thursday, successfully detaining all four individuals without incident.

Investigators believe the suspects may have attempted to leave the capital region shortly after the killing, prompting rapid surveillance and pursuit operations.

Investigation underway

Police have indicated that efforts are ongoing to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the murder, including the identification of any additional individuals who may have been involved.

Officials are also reviewing CCTV footage from the Mohammadpur area and collecting witness statements to establish the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.

A senior officer said the case is being treated with high priority given the severity of the crime and the suspected involvement of organised group activity.

Growing concern over urban violence

The incident has added to growing concerns over violent confrontations in parts of the capital, particularly those linked to personal disputes and local rivalries that escalate into fatal attacks involving sharp weapons.

Authorities have reiterated that a zero-tolerance approach is being maintained towards such acts of violence, and assured that those responsible will be brought to justice following the completion of the investigation.
