The suspects were apprehended on Friday evening, 4 September, during a targeted law enforcement raid in the Tarabo Bazar area. Officers recovered a foreign-made pistol loaded with live ammunition during the operation.

Newly appointed Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police (SP) Habibur Rahman confirmed the arrests during a press briefing held at Rupganj Police Station at 8:45 pm.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Najmul Hossain, 30; Nihal Miah, 21; Sajjad Hossain, 20; and Shofiqul Islam, 24.

According to SP Habibur Rahman, long-standing disputes over controlling local illicit drug distribution channels in Tarabo Bazar had fueled friction between two prominent groups—the Shrabon gang and the Nabi gang. Tensions frequently escalated into public confrontations, with both factions wielding lethal weapons, engaging in chases, and firing shots in broad daylight. The persistent violence created widespread fear among local residents and business owners.

The situation came to a head late on Thursday night when members of both factions engaged in another round of armed clashes and public intimidation. SP Habibur Rahman personally led a team from Rupganj Police Station to the scene to restore order and disperse the violent crowds.

Following up on intelligence gathered after Thursday’s incident, police conducted a special operation in Tarabo Bazar on Friday evening, resulting in the capture of four key operatives belonging to the Nabi gang.

Legal proceedings are underway at Rupganj Police Station to file a formal case under the Arms Act. Police authorities confirmed that the four suspects will be produced before the Narayanganj District Court on Saturday, while additional police patrols have been deployed to maintain stability in the area.
