The prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol, and octane have been increased by 2 Taka per litre, effective Monday. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources issued the official notification on Sunday night.
Diesel now costs 104 Taka per litre, kerosene 116 Taka, petrol 120 Taka, and octane 124 Taka. The government has been using an automatic fuel pricing system since March last year to align with global market rates.
Bangladesh’s annual fuel demand is about 7.5 million tonnes, with diesel accounting for 75% and the rest comprising petrol, octane, kerosene, and other fuels.
Diesel is mainly used in agricultural irrigation, transportation, and generators. The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation’s profits largely depend on diesel sales, while petrol and octane remain profitable. The automatic pricing system ensures domestic prices reflect international market fluctuations.
