Garment Supervisor Found Dead Beside Hardinge Bridge Rail Tracks in Bheramara

Police have recovered the body of a 25-year-old garment factory supervisor from alongside the railway tracks near the historic Hardinge Bridge in Bheramara, Kushtia. The deceased, identified as Mohammad Jainal Abedin, was the eldest son of Noya Miah, hailing from Chandonbari Union in the Boda Upazila of Panchagarh district.

The tragedy came to light on Thursday morning around 09:00, when local residents spotted a motionless body lying near the western flank of the Hardinge Bridge at Sholdag 68 Para, located within the Bahirchar Union. Alarmed by the discovery, locals immediately alerted the authorities. Officers from Bheramara Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to secure the area, before handing over jurisdiction to the Railway Police (GRP) from Poradaha station. The railway officers formally recovered the body at approximately 12:30 and transported it for preliminary post-mortem procedures.

Initial investigations suggest that Abedin was travelling aboard the intercity Chitra Express, heading towards Khulna from Dhaka, to visit his in-laws. According to Bheramara Railway Station Master Jainal Abedin, the Chitra Express had made a scheduled stop at the station at approximately 01:45 Thursday morning.

Speaking over the phone, the victim’s younger brother, Zahid Hasan, shared details regarding his brother’s last known movements. Abedin worked as a supervisor at a ready-made garment factory in Gazipur and had finished his shift at around 19:00 on Wednesday evening. Prior to his journey, he had informed his wife that he was struggling to secure a confirmed train ticket amidst the usual rush on the Dhaka-Khulna route. He had planned to stop briefly at his in-laws’ residence in Khulna before travelling on to his ancestral home in Panchagarh.

Officer-in-Charge of Bheramara Police Station, Mohammad Shamim Sheikh, confirmed that local police acted swiftly upon receiving the report and coordinated directly with railway authorities. Mohammad Hossain, In-Charge of the Poradaha Railway Police Station, stated that an inquest report has been prepared. Preliminary findings indicate that Abedin likely fell off the moving train during the night, sustaining severe, fatal head injuries upon impact with the rough terrain beside the tracks.

Accidental falls from long-distance passenger trains remain a recurring concern across Bangladesh’s rail network. Overcrowding, unsecured compartment doors, and passengers standing near doorways due to unreserved travel often heighten the risk of such fatal incidents during late-night journeys.

Police confirmed that the victim’s family members have been informed and are currently en route to receive the body once legal formalities are concluded.
