Gazipur Jeweller Found Murdered Inside Locked Shop

Police officers in Gazipur have recovered the body of a forty-two-year-old gold merchant whose throat was slit inside his jewellery shop in the Signboard-Bhushirmil area. The victim, identified as Abul Kalam Azad, was discovered on Sunday afternoon inside Sadia Jewellers after local traders and family members forced open the padlocked external shutter.

The deceased was the son of Nona Mia, hailing from Bholain village in the Nangalkot Upazila of Cumilla district. Azad had lived and worked in Gazipur for several years, running Sadia Jewellers along Abdul Gani Road. Following his usual routine, he retired to sleep inside the premises on Friday night. Local business owners noted that Azad customarily opened his shop by nine o’clock every morning. Suspicion grew when the shop remained firmly shuttered well past noon on Sunday, prompting neighbours to alert his relatives.

Concerned by the prolonged silence, the victim’s brother, Mohammad Kamal Uddin, gathered several local residents and inspected the building. Finding the front shutter locked from the outside, they broke the padlock to gain access. Upon entering, they found Azad’s body lying in a pool of blood on the shop floor, bearing severe wounds to the throat alongside multiple deep lacerations across his torso.

Officers from Gacha Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, securing the area and transferring the body to the morgue at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Specialist forensics teams from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), alongside senior administrative officials, conducted a detailed crime scene sweep and gathered physical evidence.

Investigating agencies have yet to confirm whether gold jewellery, valuable gems, or cash were stolen during the attack. PBI Gazipur District Police Superintendent Mohammad Rakibul Akhtar stated that specialist units are assessing the inventory, though it could not be determined immediately whether any looting had occurred.

Mohammad Golam Rabbani, Officer-in-Charge of Gacha Police Station, stated that initial findings point towards a premeditated murder. Detectives are reviewing nearby movements and interrogating persons of interest to trace the perpetrators. Authorities confirmed that further details regarding the underlying motive will emerge following forensic analysis and autopsy findings.
