Hanging Body Found at Sheikh Hasina’s Abandoned Residence in Dhanmondi

Police have retrieved the body of a 20-year-old man from Sudha Sadan, the abandoned residence of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina located on Road 5 in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

The deceased has been identified as Md Shakil, son of Sekandar Ali Matubbar and Asma Begum. He was a resident of the capital’s Mohammadpur area.

On Saturday, 25 July, local residents spotted the youth hanging inside the vacant property and alerted the authorities. A team from Dhanmondi Police Station responded promptly to the call, arriving at the scene around 11:00 am to recover the body.

Identifying the deceased initially posed a challenge for the responding officers as no immediate identification documents were found on the scene. To resolve this, law enforcement enlisted the help of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Forensic experts from the CID crime scene unit arrived shortly after to gather evidence and process biometric data. By collecting fingerprint samples and running them through automated identification systems, investigators successfully established Shakil’s identity.

Following the completion of preliminary inquest procedures and legal formalities at the location, officers transferred the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue at approximately 3:30 pm for an autopsy.

Sub-Inspector Mohammad Waduzzaman of Dhanmondi Police Station stated that official investigations are actively underway. Officers are looking into how the young man gained access to the restricted, vacant residence and the circumstances surrounding his presence there.

Police authorities noted that the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem examination report is released by medical examiners. Necessary legal procedures regarding the incident are currently being carried out by the local police station.
