Fofana made his senior debut for Ivory Coast in November 2017 during a international match against Morocco under then-head coach Marc Wilmots. Over nine years of representing his nation, the dynamic midfielder earned 34 caps and scored seven goals. His final major international appearance came at the 2026 World Cup, where he helped guide the Ivorian squad through the group stages into the Round of 32 before their tournament run came to an end.

Reflecting on his international career, Fofana highlighted Ivory Coast’s triumph at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as his absolute pinnacle. Winning the continental crown on home soil fulfilled a childhood dream, marking one of the most memorable chapters in modern Ivorian sporting history.

Born in Paris, Fofana initially represented France at youth level, playing through to the under-18 squad before committing his international future to his ancestral homeland of Ivory Coast.

His journey in club football has been equally varied and impressive. After rising through the Manchester City youth academy, he played for English side Fulham and Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr. Fofana currently plays for Portuguese giants FC Porto on loan from French club Rennes, having played an influential role in Porto’s domestic league title victory last season.
