In a stern crackdown on academic dishonesty and administrative corruption, a mobile court in Dhaka has sentenced two individuals to rigorous imprisonment for their roles in a sophisticated cheating scandal. The incident occurred during a recruitment examination for court employees held under the prestigious Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) on Saturday.
The primary culprit, identified as Mamunur Rashid (28), is himself an employee of the Naogaon District Court. In an audacious attempt to circumvent examination protocols, Rashid entered the Government Titumir College centre by falsely identifying himself as a Judicial Magistrate. Using this fabricated authority, he gained access to the examination hall with the explicit intent of assisting a candidate named Mohammad Shuvo (26).
The ruse was uncovered by Arifur Rahman, a Special Magistrate of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), who was on duty at the venue. Upon growing suspicious of Rashid’s conduct, the Magistrate detained him for questioning. A subsequent search of Rashid’s person revealed two mobile phones, which were being used to coordinate the illicit operation.
Interrogations and forensic sweeps of the scene unveiled a broader technical conspiracy involving Shuvo and an outside accomplice. According to the DMP, Shuvo had managed to smuggle a specialised electronic device into the hall, which he used to transmit the question paper via WhatsApp to an individual identified as Shyamal.
Shyamal then prepared the answers and relayed them back to Shuvo through a discrete device strapped to the candidate’s wrist. This intricate setup allowed the examinee to receive real-time solutions while under the eyes of invigilators.
| Convict Name | Role in Scam | Sentence |
|---|---|---|
| Mamunur Rashid | Fake Magistrate / Accomplice | 1 Year Rigorous Imprisonment |
| Mohammad Shuvo | Candidate / Examinee | 10 Months Rigorous Imprisonment |
| Shyamal | Remote Coordinator | Under Investigation |
The mobile court, acting swiftly to maintain the integrity of the judicial recruitment process, handed down immediate custodial sentences. The Gulshan Division of the DMP provided comprehensive logistical support during the seizure of evidence and the subsequent summary trial.
The authorities have reiterated that such breaches of trust, particularly by an existing court employee, will be met with the full force of the law. The investigation remains active as police seek to apprehend “Shyamal,” the external link in this high-tech fraud network.
