The global K-pop phenomenon has witnessed the rise of a formidable new force. Rising South Korean boy band Cortis has made history on the digital music streaming platform Spotify, setting unprecedented milestones with their hit single “RedRed”. The track has claimed the number one spot on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs chart in South Korea for an astonishing 70 consecutive days. This feat establishes a historic record as the longest-running chart-topping song by any K-pop group in the platform’s history.
The chart-topping journey of “RedRed” began on 27 April, when the song ascended to the summit of the daily rankings for the first time. It has maintained its ironclad grip on the top spot ever since. By retaining its peak position on the chart dated 12 July, the track celebrated its 70th day at number one. In doing so, the quintet shattered a prestigious three-year-and-four-month-old domestic record. The track had previously made waves on 20 June by logging 50 consecutive days at the top, a milestone that the group has now significantly extended.
The commercial dominance of “RedRed” is not confined to the daily rankings. On the Spotify Weekly Top Songs Korea chart, the single maintained its reign at number one for 11 consecutive weeks between 3 and 9 July. This achievements further cements the track’s status as a generational hit.
According to their management agency, Bighit Music, the digital footprint of Cortis has expanded exponentially. The group currently boasts a formidable monthly listenership of 12.67 million on Spotify. This surge in streaming figures places them firmly amongst the top three South Korean boy bands with the highest monthly listeners on the platform.
The five-member group consists of Martin, James, Juhun, Seonghyeon, and Keonho. Unlike many traditional manufactured pop acts, the members of Cortis distinguish themselves by actively participating in the songwriting and production processes of their music. Whilst “RedRed” remains their flagship hit, another track from the same album, titled “YoungCreatorCrew”, has also achieved viral success across various social media networks.
With their digital dominance secured, the group is transitioning to the live stage. Cortis is scheduled to kick off their highly anticipated inaugural world tour with their first solo concerts on 18 and 19 July at the Inspire Arena in Incheon. The global tour will subsequently take the quintet to Seoul, Toronto, New York, and Kanagawa in Japan. Tickets for the Incheon performances and all North American tour dates have already completely sold out in pre-sales.
In addition to their solo tour, Cortis has secured a prestigious booking at the world-renowned Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago, where they are scheduled to perform solo slots on 31 July and 1 August. Notably, they are the only K-pop boy band invited to deliver a solo performance at the American festival this year, signalling their rapid integration into the Western music market.
