Kiplin Doriga Sentenced to 3 Years for Assault in Jersey

Papua New Guinea international cricketer Kiplin Doriga has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Royal Court of Jersey for robbery and assaulting a woman while on an overseas tour. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman was participating in the 2027 ODI World Cup Qualifier Challenge League in Jersey, a British Crown dependency.

Doriga played matches against Denmark and Kuwait, but further games were disrupted after he became involved in a robbery incident. On the night of August 25, around 2:30 am, he allegedly attacked a woman while returning to his hotel through Hillary Street in St Helier.

Police arrested Doriga on the same day and formally charged him with robbery the next day. He admitted to the charges. Detective Sergeant Jim McGranahan of the States of Jersey Police Criminal Investigation Department said, “We acted quickly. The accused was in the island for only a few days. After receiving reports of an assault on a woman, we deployed multiple detectives and units. Doriga was swiftly identified, arrested, and stolen property recovered.”

McGranahan added, “We will continue to tackle violence against women and prioritize public safety on the island.”

Doriga has represented Papua New Guinea in 39 ODIs and 43 T20Is, scoring a total of 1,089 runs across both formats.
