In a dramatic moment at Ranchi, Virat Kohli’s 52nd ODI century was followed by an unexpected breach of security. After dispatching Marco Jansen’s delivery for four in the 38th over, completing a 135-run innings off 120 balls, a young fan surged onto the field, reaching Kohli and touching his feet in a gesture of reverence. Security personnel quickly intervened, escorting the fan away, while Kohli remained composed and unfazed by the intrusion.
Kohli’s innings included 11 fours and 7 sixes, showcasing a mixture of elegance and aggression. His performance, combined with Rohit Sharma’s 57 and Lokesh Rahul’s 60, helped India amass 349 for 8 wickets, setting up a commanding position against a competitive South African bowling attack.
This century also marked a personal milestone for Kohli. It was his first international hundred since February and his 52nd in ODI cricket, extending his record as the highest century-maker in the format. By surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli has solidified his place in cricket history.
The fan’s sudden appearance highlighted both the passion cricket evokes and the importance of maintaining security protocols in stadiums. Despite the intrusion, Kohli handled the situation with characteristic calm, maintaining focus on his team’s performance.
The innings demonstrated why Kohli continues to dominate world cricket, blending power, timing, and temperament. For fans, the moment of witnessing both a record-breaking century and an emotional field intrusion will remain unforgettable, encapsulating the excitement and unpredictability of live cricket.
