In Tangail, Laj Pharma has been fined 200,000 Taka by the Department of Consumer Rights Protection for selling counterfeit medicines. The operation was conducted on Sunday afternoon in Akur-Takurpara area of Tangail city by Assistant Director Asaduzzaman Rumel.
According to him, medicines purchased from Laj Pharma caused adverse effects when used by a consumer. Following a written complaint by Md. Shafiqul Islam, the operation confirmed that the medicines were counterfeit.
Under Section 41 of the law, the firm was fined 200,000 Taka. Assistant Director Rumel stated that counterfeit medicines pose severe risks to public health and such operations will continue to protect consumers’ rights.
The raid included participation from Sanitary Inspector Shaheda Akter and Drug Superintendent Zafar from the Tangail Civil Surgeon’s Office, along with other joint force members.
