A tragic incident in Laksham, Cumilla, has left the local community in shock after the body of a 15-year-old schoolgirl was discovered hanging inside a residential building near the municipal office. Police recovered the deceased early on Tuesday morning (21 April) following a distress call from residents.
The victim, identified as Synthia Uddin, was a ninth-grade student at Laksham Pilot Girls’ High School. She was the daughter of expatriate Sahab Uddin, originally from Singhoria village in Lalmai Upazila, and Khadija Akter, a primary school teacher at Komardoga Government Primary School. At the time of the incident, Synthia had been living in Laksham with her mother and siblings in rented accommodation.
According to police and family accounts, the incident may have been preceded by a domestic disagreement on Monday evening. It is reported that her mother reprimanded her over spending excessive time with friends. Following the incident, the teenager reportedly went to her room and locked the door. When she did not respond to repeated calls the following morning, family members became concerned and alerted the authorities.
Police officers from Laksham Police Station entered the room and recovered the body. She was immediately taken to Laksham Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead. Authorities have confirmed that the body was later sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
A preliminary police assessment suggests the possibility of suicide, though officials have stated that the final conclusion will depend on the post-mortem report and further investigation. A case is being prepared in connection with the incident.
