Real Madrid Set Historic €1.2 Billion Revenue Record

Real Madrid have reaffirmed their financial dominance in European football by recording an unprecedented annual operating revenue of €1.221 billion for the 2025–26 season.

This landmark figure makes the Spanish giant the first sports institution in history to cross the €1.2 billion revenue threshold. Notably, the tally excludes income generated from player transfers, highlighting the sheer strength of the club’s core commercial operations.

According to data published by Forbes, Real Madrid experienced a 3.1 per cent growth in revenue compared to the previous season. The club also retained its top spot in the Deloitte Football Money League as the highest-earning football team in Europe, leading a prestigious group that includes FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool.

Financial analysts attribute this fiscal milestone primarily to commercial diversification rather than on-pitch performance alone. Revenue streams from stadium operations, global marketing initiatives, and lucrative corporate sponsorships now account for the vast majority of the club’s earnings.

Before the extensive renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium commenced in the 2018–19 season, Real Madrid’s annual revenue stood at €757 million. The current figure of €1.221 billion represents an impressive 61 per cent growth over that baseline, with 93 per cent of the additional revenue generated directly through internal commercial avenues.

The revamped Santiago Bernabéu has proven to be a major financial catalyst. Stadium-derived revenue surged by 107 per cent to reach €363 million, whilst marketing and sponsorship income rose by 82 per cent to hit €539 million. By contrast, revenue from television broadcasting rights and international competitions grew by a modest 11 per cent during the same timeframe.

In the current season alone, stadium-based revenue increased by an additional 11 per cent, accompanied by a 6 per cent rise in marketing revenue. Club executives attribute this sustained momentum to the modernized stadium facilities, new global commercial partnerships, and renewed sponsorship agreements.

The comprehensive redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabéu has cost €1.408 billion to date and is approaching its final completion phase. Club officials confirmed that the upgraded arena is generating more than double its pre-renovation income.

Crucially, Real Madrid maintained strict control over operational expenditure alongside its record-breaking earnings. The club spent €618 million on squad management and wages, representing 46 per cent of total revenue—well beneath their internal cap of 50 per cent.

During the previous season, the club invested €161 million in player acquisitions alongside an additional €192 million allocated toward infrastructure and technological upgrades. According to financial breakdowns covered by ESPN, Real Madrid holds a net asset value of €624 million and maintains €83 million in cash reserves. Excluding stadium-related construction loans, the club’s net debt stands at a minimal €9 million.
