The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended Md. Monir Hossain, a local political leader and a key accused in a sabotage and attempted murder case filed with the Hathazari Model Police Station. The arrest of the fugitive suspect, who had been evading law enforcement, was officially confirmed on Tuesday, 5 May, by Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Saifur Rahman.
The arrest was carried out following a targeted operation based on precise intelligence. According to Assistant Director of RAB, A.R.M. Mozaffar Hossain, the elite force received a tip-off regarding the suspect’s whereabouts on Monday night. Acting on this information, a team conducted a raid at a restaurant situated directly in front of the District Superintendent of Police office.
Monir Hossain, 40, was taken into custody without incident during the late-night operation. He is the son of Abdul Jabbar Hossain, residing at Kalu Munshi’s House in the Shipatli Union of Hathazari Upazila. At the time of his arrest, Hossain was serving as the President of the Shipatli Union unit of the Bangladesh Awami League.
The suspect is a primary named accused in several legal proceedings involving violent activities. Specifically, the charges against him pertain to incidents of sabotage and attempted murder. Furthermore, law enforcement officials confirmed that Hossain faces significant charges under the Explosive Substances Act, an instrument typically invoked in cases involving the use of improvised or commercial explosives during public disturbances.

Following his apprehension and initial processing by RAB, Monir Hossain was formally handed over to the Hathazari Model Police Station on Tuesday for further legal proceedings. The police administration has stated that the accused will be produced before the court in accordance with standard judicial protocols.
The authorities have emphasised that this arrest is part of an ongoing effort to bring individuals accused of violent political sabotage and threats to public safety to justice. The investigation into the specific incidents cited in the Hathazari Model Police Station case remains active as law enforcement seeks to identify other co-conspirators. The suspect remains in police custody pending his scheduled court appearance.
