Officers from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) have arrested the headmaster of a madrasa in Banshkhali, Chittagong, following allegations of sexually abusing an eight-year-old student.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Muhammad Ramiz Uddin, served as the headmaster of the Darussunnah Khairiah Madrasa and Orphanage in Banshkhali. A team from RAB-7 apprehended him on Monday afternoon, 3 August, during an operation in the Bairag area along China Road, situated near the Karnaphuli Tunnel in Anwara Upazila.
According to the formal case statement lodged by the victim’s father, the young boy was enrolled in the Nazera department of the institution. The complaint details that the headmaster repeatedly targeted the child, isolating him in the washroom on multiple occasions following his admission to the madrasa.
The most recent incident allegedly took place on the afternoon of 23 July. After classes concluded for the day and other students went to play in the field, Ramiz Uddin called the child into an empty classroom on the second floor of the orphanage’s Hifz section, where the assault occurred. The headmaster subsequently threatened the boy with severe consequences to prevent him from disclosing the abuse to anyone.
Upon returning home, the boy broke down in tears, refusing to return to the madrasa before eventually confiding in his mother. Shocked by the revelations, the child’s father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Banshkhali Police Station on 29 July.
Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7 and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) A. R. M. Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the arrest, stating that Ramiz Uddin went into hiding immediately after the police case was filed. Acting on a specific intelligence tip-off regarding his whereabouts in Anwara, law enforcement personnel deployed to the area and took him into custody. The suspect has since been handed over to Banshkhali police officers to undergo formal legal proceedings.
