Police have detained the headmaster of a local madrasa in Savar following allegations of an attempted sexual assault on a young child inside the institution. Officers took the suspect into custody on Wednesday afternoon, 19 August, directly from the premises after outraged residents alerted law enforcement.
According to police sources and local eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded within the madrasa grounds when the headmaster allegedly led the young pupil to an isolated room after regular classes had concluded. The suspect attempted to assault the child, but the victim screamed for help, alerting nearby parents and residents. Surrounding neighbours rushed to the scene upon hearing the child’s cries, forcing the door open and discovering the distressing situation.
News of the alleged assault spread rapidly throughout the immediate neighbourhood, sparking intense indignation amongst local residents and parents. An angry crowd assembled outside the institution, demanding immediate justice and calling for stringent action against the educator. Recognizing the potential for civil disruption, sensible community members contacted the national emergency service, prompting a swift response from the local authorities.
A operational team from Savar Model Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to de-escalate the situation. Officers secured the premises, extracted the suspect from the agitated crowd, and escorted him into police custody for formal questioning. Meanwhile, the distressed child was reunited with family members and taken to receive initial support and medical evaluation.
The victim’s family subsequently lodged a formal written complaint at Savar Model Police Station, requesting a full investigation under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Confirming the detention, Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Savar Model Police Station, stated that law enforcement agencies are actively gathering evidence and questioning the suspect. He assured that the police are facilitating the necessary medical examinations for the victim at a specialized hospital unit to ensure a robust legal case. Police officers remain stationed near the madrasa to maintain public order while preliminary investigations proceed.
