Madrasa Student Severely Injured in Home Explosion While Making Cocktail

A 23-year-old madrasa student sustained serious injuries after an explosion occurred while attempting to make a cocktail at his residence in Nilfa Bazar, Tungipara Upazila, on Monday. The blast caused severe burns to his hands, feet, and face.

The critically injured student, Matiur Rahman, was initially admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. On Tuesday, he was transferred to the National Burn Institute in Dhaka for specialised treatment. Medical officials have described his condition as stable but serious, emphasising the need for intensive burn care.

Following the incident, the Bomb Disposal Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police visited Matiur’s home. They recovered several pieces of evidence related to the explosion and safely neutralised an unexploded device resembling a cocktail. Authorities are investigating the circumstances under which the explosive device was being manufactured.

Tungipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Ayub Ali, confirmed that legal proceedings are underway, adding that safety measures and public awareness campaigns are being reinforced to prevent similar accidents.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents regarding the risks of handling explosive substances at home, especially by untrained individuals. Authorities have urged families and students to avoid experimenting with combustible materials and to report any suspicious activities immediately.
