Police in Madhukhali, Faridpur, have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Md Rajib Molla, was arrested on Thursday afternoon, 15 October, at Janata Jute Mill in the Chiter Bazar area of Boalmari upazila, with the assistance of information technology.
He was sent to a court in Faridpur on Friday, 16 October, police said.
According to the complaint lodged in the case, the incident allegedly took place on 25 January this year in Dumain village, under Dumain Union in Madhukhali upazila, where the girl had gone to visit her maternal grandparents.
The complaint states that the girl’s mother went to hospital for medical treatment while they were staying in the village. During her mother’s absence, the accused allegedly intimidated the girl, took her to his house and raped her.
The matter came to light after the girl’s family noticed physical changes and sought medical advice. Following medical examinations, the family learnt that she was pregnant, according to the case statement.
The girl’s father subsequently filed a case with Madhukhali Police Station on 6 August 2026, seeking legal action over the alleged offence.
Following the filing of the case, police pursued the accused as part of their investigation. A team led by Sub-Inspector Md Moktar Hossain of Madhukhali Police Station conducted an operation and arrested Molla at the jute mill in Boalmari, using information technology to help establish his whereabouts.
Madhukhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sukdeb Roy confirmed the arrest and said the accused had been sent to court. Legal proceedings in connection with the case are continuing.
The case highlights the importance of safeguarding children and adolescents from sexual violence and ensuring that allegations of such offences are investigated promptly. Access to appropriate medical care, psychological support and protection from intimidation can be crucial for young victims and their families during legal proceedings.
As the investigation progresses, the evidence will be examined through the judicial process. The allegations against the arrested man have yet to be established in court, and the case remains subject to the applicable legal procedures.
