Man Collapses in Fuel Queue

A routine visit to a petrol station turned tragic in Dinajpur’s Kaharol upazila when a 48-year-old man collapsed and died while waiting in a long queue to refuel his motorcycle. The incident occurred on Thursday (26 March) around 11:00 am at the Asma Latifa Filling Station, where heavy congestion had formed due to high demand.

According to local accounts, the deceased, Enayetul Karim, had been standing in line for an extended period to collect fuel for his motorcycle. While waiting under crowded conditions, he suddenly became unwell and collapsed at the scene. Bystanders immediately rushed him to Kaharol Upazila Health Complex, but attending physicians declared him dead upon arrival.

Medical officials later indicated that he had a pre-existing history of hypertension, which may have contributed to the sudden medical emergency. The stress of standing in a lengthy queue, combined with his underlying condition, is believed to have triggered a fatal stroke.

Enayetul Karim, aged 48, was a resident of Sahapara village under Sator Union in Birganj upazila. He was the son of the late Mozammel Master. Family sources said he worked for a pesticide distribution company and was known as a working family man with one son and one daughter. At the time of the incident, he was visiting his in-laws’ house in Kaharol and had gone to the petrol station to refuel his motorcycle.

Health officials emphasised that sudden cardiovascular events such as strokes can be triggered by physical strain, prolonged standing, dehydration, and psychological stress—particularly among individuals with pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure.

The incident has raised concerns among locals about the increasing pressure at fuel stations, where long queues and prolonged waiting times have become common. Residents expressed that better crowd management and improved fuel distribution could help reduce such risks, especially for elderly or medically vulnerable individuals.

Authorities have not reported any irregularities at the station, and the case is being treated as a sudden natural death linked to medical complications.
