Man Surrenders After Fatal Hammer Attack on Wife in Narail

NARAIL — A tragic dispute fueled by domestic discord and suspicions of infidelity resulted in the death of a 32-year-old woman in Lohagara sub-district, Narail, after her husband launched a violent hammer attack against her.

The fatal incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Korfa village, situated within the Mallikpur Union of Lohagara. The victim was identified as Jesmin Khanm, 32, daughter of Siddique Mir, a resident of Korfa village. Her husband, Jasim Sheikh, son of Momrez Sheikh from the same locality, surrendered voluntarily to local law enforcement shortly after committing the assault.

According to police sources and grieving relatives, ongoing domestic friction between the couple escalated dramatically on Sunday when Jasim accused his wife of having an extramarital affair. A heated verbal altercation quickly turned physical as Jasim seized a hammer and repeatedly struck Jesmin across her head and body, inflicting severe physical trauma and traumatic brain injuries.

Hearing her cries, family members and neighbours rushed to the scene and rescued the critically injured woman. She was initially transported to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex for urgent medical intervention. However, due to the rapid deterioration of her vital signs and the complexity of her injuries, attending physicians referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for specialized neurosurgical treatment. Despite emergency efforts by medical staff, Jesmin succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon while undergoing treatment at DMCH.

Confirming the fatality, Abdur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station, stated that law enforcement received formal confirmation of Jesmin’s death from DMCH authorities. He noted that the suspect walked directly into the police station to surrender immediately following the brutal assault.

In the wake of the tragedy, senior police officials deployed additional security personnel to Korfa village as a precautionary measure to prevent unrest, retaliatory violence, or public disturbances between the affected families. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to collect forensic evidence, record witness statements, and complete the necessary legal procedures to press formal murder charges against the detained suspect.
