Mason Stabbed to Death Over Outstanding Debt in Narail

A financial dispute culminated in tragedy when a 30-year-old mason was allegedly stabbed to death after demanding his outstanding money from a neighbour in Lohagara upazila, Narail. The incident, which has sparked tension in the locality, highlights the growing severity of personal disputes turning violent.

The deceased, identified as Alinur Fakir, was the son of Abdul Hai Fakir, residing in Kumrodanga village under the Itna union. According to local sources, the fatal altercation took place at approximately 10:00 pm on Saturday, 18 July, near the Kumrodanga Government Primary School.

Eyewitnesses stated that Alinur was standing near the primary school grounds when he encountered Rajib Sheikh, the son of Jahangir Sheikh from the same village. Alinur requested the repayment of an outstanding sum of money that Rajib owed him for prior dealings. This request quickly provoked an aggressive reaction, leading to a heated verbal altercation between the two men.

As the argument escalated, Rajib reportedly drew a sharp knife and stabbed Alinur squarely in the abdomen, causing catastrophic internal injuries. Alinur collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely. Hearing his frantic screams, local residents rushed to the scene to intervene. Spotting the gathering crowd, the assailant fled the area into the cover of darkness.

Neighbours carried the critically wounded Alinur to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where attending physicians pronounced him dead on arrival. Medical staff noted that massive blood loss prior to hospitalisation was the primary cause of death.

Upon receiving information about the murder, a dispatch team from the Lohagara Police Station visited the crime scene and the hospital morgue to initiate a preliminary inquiry. Investigators collected forensic evidence from the school premises and interviewed local shopkeepers. Because Rajib Sheikh went into hiding immediately after the attack, law enforcement officers could not secure his official statement.

Ajit Kumar Roy, the Inspector (Investigation) of Lohagara Police Station, confirmed that a murder investigation has commenced. The body has been transferred to the Narail District Hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination. Police are working closely with the victim’s family to lodge a formal case, and special operations are underway to locate and apprehend the fugitive suspect.
